Grav3yardgirl x Tarte Swamp Queen Palette First Impressions

If you’re an avid YouTube beauty vlogger follower like me, guaranteed you’ve stumbled across Grav3yardgirl’s channel. The quirkiness of Bunny is so appealing and her looks are super unique. So when other people like Jeffree Star and MannyMUA were reviewing her new palette (a collab with Tarte Cosmetics), I knew I had to buy it. I mainly purchase my makeup goods from Ulta, so the moment they told me it was available online, I added it to my cart and bought the palette. Unfortunately, the liquid lipsticks that came with the palette were sold separately and sold out when I last looked (I may have to go to my nearest Ulta location to purchase).

In Grav3yardgirl’s palette you’ll find a brush, a bronzer color, a highlight and a blush. You’ll also find nine eyeshadow colors including some matte, some shimmer and some glitter. The names are super cute. When I swatched after I got the palette (and then stupidly deleted the photo of the swatches), the colors are super pigmented. This palette helps you accomplish a full-face glam or natural look. I can’t wait to experiment more with these colors. Take a look at the palette below. I’m in love with the packaging and the sturdiness of it, too.

  • haunting (lavender)
  • uncommon (purple slate)

  • sweet tea (bronzer)
  • gator wings (highlighter)
  • does this thing really work? (blush)

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick First Impression

While making a purchase on Ulta.com, I needed an add-on item to get free shipping. That day, Urban Decay had just launched their Vice lipsticks (100 different shades in 6 different finishes), so I decided to pick a color and lip liner and add it to my bag to get that free shipping.

What a good decision that was! I’m in love with the color I got, as well as the finish. I am obsessed with matte finishes right now, so when I saw that the Vice lipsticks come in a comfort matte, I had to try it. The shade I purchased was Backtalk (a mauve-nude pink) in a comfort matte finish. The comfort matte finish feels like a regular, creamy lipstick, but looks 90% matte after it dries. I am really digging it. I will probably purchase a few other colors. Look at that packaging! Loving it. The Urban Decay 24/7 glide-on lip pencil in Rush (pictured) is super pigmented, so keep that in mind. Ulta’s site has a perfect couples section that matches a shade of the Vice lipstick to a lip liner, so give that a whirl if you’re interested.

Have you tried Urban Decay’s new Vice lipstick? Let me know in the comments.

Mascara Melt-Off Review

In my last big Too Faced haul, I had purchased their Mascara Melt-Off as I always seem to have trouble getting all the mascara off my lashes. After having dinner with my father-in-law in San Francisco (if you’re ever in the Castro neighborhood of San Francisco, highly recommend Beso), it was time to take off my full face of makeup. First thing’s first – get rid of the mascara. Per the instructions, you’re supposed to coat your lashes with this conditioner and leave in for 60 seconds. The applicator looks like a traditional mascara wand, with way shorter bristles.

All in all, I think the product works really well. Even better if you wipe off the mascara with a makeup wipe (which Too Faced suggests in the instructions, too). I do, however, feel like if you leave it in for more than 60 seconds, you’ll be better off. I still had a little mascara on my lashes this morning.

All in all, I am loving this product and will continue using! 😀

Have you used the Mascara Melt-Off by Too Faced? If not, what’s your way of removing all your mascara? Leave a comment below.

Update: Letting the conditioner sit on my lashes for 2 minutes worked better. Still use a makeup wipe to remove it all.

Natural Glow Party Look – Eyes

Earlier this week I shared with you my whole look for the White Hot Summer party I attended. What I didn’t show you is a close up of the eyes, so here you go! The hubby and I are heading out to a friend’s birthday dinner tonight, so I thought I’d recreate the eye look. See the step-by-step instructions for this eye look below the photo.

Eyes:

  • Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Original by Urban Decay. Apply all over your lid and up to brow bone.
  • Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette by Too Faced. See below for colors and placement.
    • Using an all over eyeshadow brush, apply White Chocolate on lid up to brow bone.
    • Using a clean blending brush, apply Salted Caramel in the crease. Be sure to tap off excess shadow before applying. Start with little color and add more to deepen the color if necessary. Keep applying to the outer corner of your eye, to mid-eyelid.
    • Using the same all over eyeshadow brush you used for White Chocolate, apply Marzipanon the center of your eyelid to the inner corner.
    • If needed, apply more Salted Caramel in the crease with the blending brush used. To soften the crease, take a clean blending brush and blend it out.
    • On brow bone, apply Champagne Truffle to highlight and line the bottom of your eyebrow.
    • Apply Champagne Truffle on your inner corners to brighten your eyes a bit.
  • 24/7 Waterline Eye Pencil in Legend (black) by Urban Decay. Running out of this, too, so I purchased a Too Faced one to see which looks better.
  • Long Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink by Bobbi Brown. I haven’t used a liquid eyeliner since purchasing this, but watched a MannyMUA video last night that uses a brush and liquid eyeliner. I feel like I have more control with a brush rather than what comes with the liquid eyeliner.
  • They’re Real Mascara by Benefit Cosmetics. No need for falsies with this.

Natural Glow Party Look

It’s summertime and the living is easy. On Sunday, my work threw a fabulous White Hot Summer party with Cavallo Point Lodge in Sausalito, CA. Since people had to show up in their best summer whites, I decided to create a simple, natural glow look. Below is a photo from my snapchat. I didn’t get a close up of my eyeshadow, however, I plan on doing this look again, so I will update with a new photo then. Also, I recently added some ombré highlights, so I’m looking blonder and tanner. 🙂 This look is using primarily Too Faced products.

Since this look consisted of neutrals and pinks, the melted matte lipstick really added some depth to the look. I will definitely be doing this look again (probably this weekend for a friend’s birthday party).

Child Star Melted Matte Liquified Lipstick

I haven’t officially done a Child Star Melted Matte Liquified Lipstick post yet, so here it is! Love this color. It goes well with every outfit and keeps my lips hydrated. Also, I took a picture of my Warm Glow Too Faced Candlelight Glow highlighter that I don’t leave the house without wearing. Makeup Tip: put a little highlighter on the tip of your nose and brush on your cupid’s bow to give them a little extra glow.

Solid BeautyCleanser Review

So, I gave it a whirl. I tried the Solid BeautyCleanser that I purchased from Sephora a couple weeks ago on my beauty blenders. The product is actually really cool and smells nice, so I wanted to write up a little review about it for you all. First, here’s a before and after photo.

As you can see, my beauty blender looked horrendous. I think I had only cleaned it one time prior. Afterwards, however, it looks brand spanking new. As for the beautycleanser itself, it’s a great product. The soap formula really works to break up all that makeup on the sponge and it comes off with ease. Prior to actually cleaning my sponges, I watched the video showing how to use the solid beautycleanser and it offered a couple tips and tricks on how to clean it.2016-05-08 18.33.29
The suggestion of tapping your beauty blender onto the pink silicone pad didn’t work well for me. I got better results from rubbing the beauty blender on the silicone pad as it got more of the makeup off quicker. It took me about a half hour to clean both my sponges, which isn’t horrible. I have yet to use it on brushes, but plan on doing so this weekend since I am reorganizing my makeup caddy.

Do you use the beautycleanser? If not, what product do you use and have found successful?

Have a happy weekend!

Work Party Makeup

This week, I’ve been representing the magazine I work for a lot, and tonight is no exception. We have a work-related function after working hours, so I thought I’d keep it professional, yet fun for the event tonight. Here’s the look and check out the details below the photos.

Professional Glam Look

Today I am heading back to my alma mater, San Francisco State University, to help judge magazine ideas for a contemporary magazines class (my full time job is the digital media manager for Marin Magazine in Sausalito, CA). That being said, I decided to do a full face of makeup today since I will be out representing the magazine. Why do I call it “professional glam”? Because the gold layer of eyeshadow has glitter galore in it. Subtle enough for the workplace, but glamorous enough to up your every day makeup game. I used a variety of products that I will list below. Here are a couple snaps of my look:

Party Look Using (Mainly) Too Faced Products

On Saturday, my husband and I drove down to Santa Cruz for a friend’s going away party. Since we would be seeing people we hadn’t seen since our wedding last October and since I’d be meeting new people, I thought I’d create a new party look. If you remember, my last haul from Sephora included the Too Faced Boudoir Eyes eyeshadow palette, so I decided to give that a go. Here are two photos of my look: one showing everything, and the other, a close up of my shimmery eye shadow. Read below the photos to see how I blended the eye look.

Sephora Beauty Haul

While I’m not sharing a lipstick swatch and look with you guys (check out my last three about Melted Matte Queen B, Melted Matte Sell Out and La Matte Sorry, Not Sorry), I am sharing my latest haul from Sephora with you. Of course there is a Too Faced eyeshadow palette included, but a couple of essentials, too.

2016-05-05 07.44.24

First off, this Too Faced Boudoir Eyes palette is amazing. I love that they include a little booklet showing you three different looks in just three steps. All these colors are shades that I use, so I can’t wait to try it out. Also, that packaging! Super cute.

Next up, the classic beauty blender. I cannot live without this product. I have two from Ulta that I purchased and use it daily to apply my foundation and concealer and touch up any areas needed after applying a liquid lipstick or eyeshadow. It provides a flawless look and just blends everything perfectly.

Lastly, I have yet to try this product, but am super excited to. The blendercleanser has received rave reviews on Sephora.com and I have been looking for easier ways to clean my beauty blenders, so I thought I’d give this product a try. I will be using it tonight, so I will report with a “before and after” post featuring my blenders.

Here’s a closer look at the colors featured in the Boudoir Eyes palette by Too Faced. Love, love love!

La Matte Lipstick from Too Faced

As you can tell by my latest posts, I am really loving matte lipsticks right now. Before I even purchased my latest Melted Matte lipsticks, I had purchased a couple La Matte lipsticks from Too Faced. Today’s photo features the color Sorry, Not Sorry. I love the way this feels on my lips. It keeps them moisturized and they don’t crack throughout the day.

I’ll re-share my base makeup products with you too:

Foundation: Born This Way in Warm Nude by Too Faced

Concealer: Bye Bye Under Eye by it Cosmetics
